Thank You Sterling - Spring Open House

Thank You Sterling for making our 2019 Sprint Open House a Success! Despite the overcast skies and chilly weather many showed up for our 2019 Spring Open House at the Dulles Town Center Mall. Sterling Rescue was on full display this past Saturday, May the 11th to show the public the equipment and skills that it uses to answer over 7,500 calls per year. On display was the 2009 Spartan/EVI Heavy Rescue 635, Freightliner/Medic Master Technical Rescue 625, Ford Crew Cab Support Pickup Truck, Water Rescue Trailer and watercraft, Ambulances 616-B and 625-B, Command 615, All terrain Polaris UTV-615, and the historical 1966 Cadillac Sterling Rescue 2. Inside the mall was the 2016 Ford Explorer Advanced Life Support Chase Vehicle.

Thanks to the Nurses from Reston Hospital, who were on hand to teach mini classes in CPR and AED Use. Many tried their hand and practiced on the available manikins and infant simulators. A moon bounce provided ample fun for the little ones, and plenty of swag was available for the spin of a wheel. A car cutting demonstration was done to display the use of heavy rescue equipment and techniques for auto extraction and ‘stop the bleed’ hands hon training was provided by operational crew members.

Founded in 1964, the Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad was created as a "Jaycees" project in a newly developed planned community in Eastern Loudoun County, following a tragic pedestrian accident in which bystanders had to wait for an ambulance from Loudoun Rescue, which was then headquartered in Hamilton, Virginia.
